Who Inspired us: SARA BAPTISTA

28 of June of 2021

"Without mincing words" is the expression that perfectly characterizes Sara, or better known on social networks as Preta Sarita. PhD student in biology in the field of malaria, given to science, she is a case study. A friendship that inspires us by her attentive gaze to everything around her, Sara is our representative of a friendship that supports friends and pushes us with her critical eye. It was through her watchful eye for great causes that she inspired us to campaign for them. Using our airspace to position ourselves and give voice to what we believe in. Eccentric, original, funny, intelligent, convinced, sociable and challenging. That's our Sara.

She has a unique joy in life, but it is through her challenging side that she becomes so unique in our journey.

OH PEOPLE OF MY LAND

The Portuguese phrase that describes you is... I can't name just one, so here are a dozen: he who scorns, wants to buy; if you don't like it, put it on the side of the plate; when a door closes, there is always a window that opens; knowledge doesn't occupy a place; necessity sharpens the wit; he who laughs last laughs best; after the storm comes the bonanza; he who is afraid of taking a dump doesn't eat; you can buy what is expensive, but conquer what is valuable; lies have a short leg.

The Portuguese expression that is always on the tip of my tongue is... The Portuguese expression that is always on the tip of my tongue is: "C'um Catano" (just because I can't write "C@$%&lho" or "F#&@-se").

Favorite tradition/party April 25th ALWAYS (fascism NEVER again) and the summer pilgrimages.

Portuguese curiosity The tradition of tea was brought and rooted in the daily life of British society by the Portuguese aristocracy (the Infanta D. Catarina de Bragança), during the 17th century. Legend has it that the word "tea" is the acronym for "Transport of Aromatic Herbs", written on the box where the Infanta kept the tea leaves.

Favorite place from the interior to the coast, from the city to the ghetto, from the north to the south, from the islands to the mainland, everywhere there is a beauty of its own, in this Portugal of ours.

Place that I have yet to visit Azores (and all the ones I haven't visited yet).

What do you consider to be the best thing about Portugal: the people, because it is a mix of many different peoples, which translates into a country that, although geographically small, is culturally rich and diverse.

TO BE PORTUGUESE IS TO HAVE IN YOUR SOUL

A food In the national gastronomy it is difficult to choose "just one food that fills the soul. That's why I choose to list "the classic menu" of fish, meat and dessert: "Octopus à lagareiro, Bitoque and any conventual sweets" (but a galão and a toast of Alentejo bread for breakfast, a sea bream with lettuce, tomato and bell pepper salad for lunch and a good loin steak, a well-drunk imperial and a homemade chocolate mousse for dinner, will also do). Important note: the fries must be "the real thing".

MORE THAN A TRADITION, AN INSPIRATION

Who inspires you and why? Some call her Filó. Others call her Mena. I call her Mother. She is the one who inspires me. Her integrity, principles and values, vision of the world and of people, courage and extreme resilience.

Where do you get your inspiration from? In what I feel about what I observe in the gestures, attitudes, and ways of being of others towards themselves, others, and the world in general.

How do you inspire others? I don't know. You tell me.
